20th Sellaronda Bike Day attracts 16,000 cyclists on traffic-free Dolomite mountain passes
Sellaronda, June 6, 2026 – The 20th edition of the Sellaronda Bike Day once again celebrated cycling and sustainable mobility in the Dolomites. The long-established event around the Sella massif was a great success today and attracted around 16,000 enthusiastic cyclists despite mixed weather forecasts.
Even the cool temperatures did not prevent participants from taking advantage of the unique opportunity to experience the four Dolomite mountain passes – Passo Gardena, Sella Pass, Pordoi Pass and Campolongo Pass – completely free of motorized traffic. For one day, the roads leading over these passes were closed to vehicles and transformed into a paradise for cyclists, offering an unparalleled riding experience amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Dolomites.
Participants came from all over Italy, with particularly strong attendance from South Tyrol. In addition, numerous guests from Germany and across Europe took part in the event. The Sellaronda Bike Day is also becoming increasingly popular among cycling enthusiasts from the United States and several Asian countries.
The Sellaronda Bike Day is much more than a sporting event. It offers participants the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Dolomites in a sustainable way and to enjoy nature free from traffic noise and emissions. The traffic-free mountain roads clearly demonstrate the value that low-traffic alpine regions can offer both people and the environment.
The organizing committee emphasizes that the event is only possible thanks to the close cooperation between the Ladin valleys, the commitment of numerous volunteers, and the crucial support provided by local and provincial authorities.
The next Sellaronda Bike Day will take place during the autumn edition on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
