19th SELLARONDA BIKE DAY: Autumn Edition
The autumn edition of the Sellaronda Bike Day, held today, September 13, continues to grow in popularity year after year. Despite rather chilly temperatures ranging between 4 and 12 degrees Celsius, around 10,000 cyclists took part – compared to the still well-attended June edition with about 20,000 participants. They took advantage of the Dolomite passes closed to motorized traffic to complete the loop around the Sella Group.
In addition to many Italians, the event attracted participants from neighboring countries, Eastern Europe, and even some sports enthusiasts from America and Asia.
The car-free Dolomite passes are receiving increasing approval and gaining importance. Such initiatives raise awareness for sustainable efforts to protect the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dolomites.
The organizing committee emphasizes that an event of this scale is only possible thanks to the close collaboration of the four valleys, the numerous volunteers, and the support of local and provincial authorities.
The route runs over 58 km of paved roads with an altitude difference of around 1,800 meters, crossing four legendary Dolomite passes. A car-free day that is a true celebration for all cycling enthusiasts, organized by the tourism associations and public administrations of the four Ladin valleys: Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Val di Fassa, and Arabba/Fodom.
