4. Sella Ronda Bike Day - Sunday 12/07/2009.

On the tracks of the pink trial – 1st Plan de Corones Giro – Replica

Treat into the footsteps of the cycling stars, on one of the most extraordinary routes in the history of the Giro d’Italia and compete with the winner of the Plan de Corones stage 2008, Franco Pellizotti.
So we could synthetize the idea of the Organizing Committee “Al Plan Events” from San Vigilio di Marebbe – Plan de Corones, Southtyrol, that will take place on Friday, July 10th 2009.
As an anticipation of the “Sellaronda Bike Day, the day entirely dedicated to the bike on the Dolomitic passes with the roads closed off, on Sunday, July 12th, the 1st edition of the Plan de Corones Giro – Replica will be an excellent opportunity to “check the feet” and to warm up well before facing the four passes.
The Organizing Committee expects a good participation, local and national as well as international, as the date is set between the Maratona dles Dolomites (5/7) and the Dolomiti Superbike of Niederdorf, where they are looking forward to renowned participants.

The organizers have got ready the repetition of the legendary uphill timetrial from San Vigilio to the peak of Plan de Corones, the well-known “panettone”, where in winter thousands of enthusiastics ski on 100 km slopes.
The course is the original one: 12,5 km (8 km asphalt, 5 km dirt road, 1.080 m difference in height with gradients up to 24%)
In this non competitive amateurish event participants (men/ women, FCI enrolled or not) will start from San Vigilio between 9 and 12 a.m., equipped with a chip. Participants are free to select the starting time.
The heart of the matter is the racing time achieved in 2008 by the winner Franco Pellizotti: 40’26’’.
Participants – on a racing bicycle or on a mountain bike – will have only this goal: to get as near as possible this time. When the 2.275 m height are reached, the chip will
give out the results.

Performance grade A:
Racing time up to 60’26’’ ( + 20 minutes Pellizotti time) – gold medal

Performance grade B:
Racing time up to 1h 20’26’’ ( + 40 minutes Pellizotti time) – silver medal

Performance grade C:
Racing time over 1h 20’26’’ (over + 40 minutes Pellizotti time) – bronze medal

The cyclist that will stop at the Furcia Pass, and cross the intermediate finishing line at the height of 1.750 m , will automatically be put in the performance grade D: bronze medal with “Passo Furcia” plate.

The participation fee is 20 € until July 7th and 25 € from July 8th to the race day.
Payment of the entry fee includes 1 race jersey, 1 medal of merit, 1 pasta with drink.

The registration can be made online on the site www.sanvigilio.com where you’ll find further informations and the participation rules.
